How to schedule social media posts with ChatGPT

ChatGPT writes a good caption and then hands it back to you. It has no connection to your Instagram, and asking it to "post this" gets you an apology. There are three real ways to close that gap, and they differ a lot in effort — the first one is the only one where ChatGPT actually publishes.

ChatGPT cannot post to social media by itself

No prompt changes this, and any page that implies otherwise is selling something. ChatGPT has no credentials for your accounts and no publishing rights on any network. What it can do is call a tool that holds those credentials — which is what a connector is, and what Ravenpost exposes.

Route 1: add the Ravenpost plugin (the one that actually posts)

  1. Connect your accounts to Ravenpost

One browser sign-in per network, once. The free plan covers a connected account and ten posts a month with no card, which is enough to see whether the workflow suits you.

  2. Add Ravenpost from ChatGPT's plugin directory

Ravenpost is listed in ChatGPT's plugin directory: open the listing and press Install plugin — there is no URL to paste. If your plan does not offer Install, add the MCP server as a custom connector in ChatGPT's settings instead, with the URL below; custom connectors are a paid-tier feature on OpenAI's side, and where they live in the settings has moved more than once.

    Add to ChatGPT
    Custom connector URL
    https://api.ravenpo.st/mcp
  3. Sign in when it asks

The connector runs an OAuth sign-in and comes back holding its own credential, so there is no API key to paste. If a client refuses to run the browser flow, a personal access token can ride in the URL instead — treat that URL as the password it is.

  4. Ask it to publish

From then on "schedule this for Tuesday on LinkedIn and X" is a thing ChatGPT can do rather than describe. It lists your accounts, uploads the media and creates the post.

What to ask ChatGPT

Written the way somebody would actually type them, with what each one ends up doing.

  • “List my connected social accounts and what each one accepts.”

Confirms the connector works and shows ChatGPT the caption budgets and media rules it has to write inside.

  • “Turn this blog post into a LinkedIn post and an X thread, then show me both before posting.”

Writes to two very different budgets — 3,000 characters against 280 — and renders each as its network will, so you approve the post rather than a description of it.

  • “Schedule the LinkedIn one for tomorrow 9am and save the thread as a draft.”

Two posts, two outcomes — the LinkedIn post on the calendar, the thread kept as a draft — each tracked separately.

  • “How did last week’s posts do?”

Reads followers per account and the engagement recorded against recent posts — including posts already on the account before you connected it.

What it still cannot do

The things you would otherwise find out on day two.

  • Which ChatGPT plans and regions can install plugins is OpenAI’s call, and the custom connector that stands in for one is a paid-tier feature that has moved around the settings more than once. If neither is offered to you, that is the constraint — not the server.
  • ChatGPT does not draw the picture here: an image it makes in its own chat still has to be saved and handed over. The connector schedules and reformats media, and can make a short template video from your own pictures or screenshot your site; it does not invent media.
  • Route 2 — draft in ChatGPT, paste into the calendar — needs no connector, no paid tier and no setup. For one post a week it is genuinely the right answer, and it is worth saying so.
  • Route 3 is the REST API, for anything running on a schedule of its own. It is included on every plan, has an OpenAPI document, and is the route to take when the thing publishing is your code rather than a chat.

ChatGPT questions

Can ChatGPT post to Instagram directly?

Not on its own — it holds no credentials for your accounts. With a connector it can, because the connector holds them and publishes through Instagram’s official API on ChatGPT’s behalf.

Is Ravenpost in ChatGPT’s plugin directory?

Yes — listed by T1M LLC, the company behind Ravenpost, with the MCP server and its four skills. Press Install plugin on the listing and sign in to Ravenpost; there is no URL or API key to paste.

Does this need a paid ChatGPT plan?

Which plans can install plugins is OpenAI’s to decide, and it has changed over time. Adding the server as a custom connector instead is a paid-tier feature on OpenAI’s side. Nothing about either is set by us.

Does it need a paid Ravenpost plan?

No. The MCP server and the REST API are on every plan, free included — the free plan covers one connected account and ten posts a month.

What if I just want to draft in ChatGPT and post by hand?

That works fine and needs nothing set up: write the captions, paste them into the Ravenpost composer, and it still gives you the per-network previews, the scheduling and the queue. The connector is for when the pasting is the annoying part.

Is there an API instead?

Yes — a REST API on the same surface as the MCP server, included on every plan, with an OpenAPI document. Use it when the thing doing the posting is a script or a workflow rather than a conversation.

Which networks are supported?

Instagram, TikTok, X, Telegram, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube and Pinterest.
